Hi! My name is Luciana, but you can call me just Lu (sounds like Lou).
I’m originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Due to my previous job as a geologist, I have lived in several countries: Venezuela, Australia and since May 2010, Canada. But I’ll tell you that if there is one thing I have always loved more than collecting rocks, is drawing. Since I was a little girl I had dreamed about studying arts but I only got the chance to take my first drawing class when I was in my early twenties. It was when I realized I had found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
But not everything in life happens exactly in the order we plan… I went to Fine Arts college, but had to quit it a year later to work. After that I was eager to return to school but decided to keep my feet on the ground, and chose to study geology (yes, I take my expectations very seriously). So, I graduated as a geologist, made great friends in the area, married a geologist, worked for five years in the mining industry and went to see the world (see photos above)… but the passion for drawing never left me. So, as soon as we moved to Australia I got pregnant and felt the time to enjoy drawing again might be about to come back.
The beginning was a bit crazy though. I had Nicolas, quit my job and had a hard time getting used to doing all the housework and also taking care of a newborn without having anybody else’s help (except for my husband, of course). Slowly things were getting back on track and five months after Nicolas was born I finally found some relaxing time to sketch again and of course he was my primary inspiration for that.
Well, that’s pretty much how everything began. At the present day we live nearby Vancouver, I have my studio at home and besides Nicolas, who just turned 4, I also have Lily, who was born in February 2012. These two adorable kids are my inspiration to draw, but they also still demand a lot of attention. Visit my studio to see how I cope with that!
